Harry Dewald, 73, Jamestown, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.
Mr. Dewald was born Oct. 9, 1928, at the family farm in Logan County, near Streeter, N.D., the son of Fred and Mary (Speidel) Dewald. He attended the local rural school, where he received his elementary education and grew up in the vicinity. In 1956 he went to work as a farm laborer at the Walter Holzworth farm near Woodworth, N.D. He married Hertha Witt May 22, 1961, at Jamestown. They lived near Woodworth, where he continued to work on the Holzworth farm. In 1972 they moved to a farm near Sykeston, N.D., and worked for Polries Brothers in Sykeston. She died in 1995. He married Winifred Schmidt Oct. 21, 1995, at Carrington, N.D. They lived in Carrington. He retired in 1996. In 1999 they moved to Jamestown. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Jamestown.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ivan (Sabrina), Columbia, Mo., Harlan (Brenda), Jamestown, and Herbert (Bonnita), Spiritwood, N.D.; a daughter, Holly (Mike) Dockter, Carrington; two stepsons, Terry (Helen) Nelson, Worland, Wyo., and Kelly Schmidt, Carrington; a stepdaughter, Karla (George) Nelson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Norman (Shirley), Bremerton, Wash., and Robert (Violet), Jamestown; a sister, DeLoris (Raymond) Eberhardt, Jamestown; 20 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather and his first wife.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.
Prayer service: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, N.D.
