Gertrude Jean Aspenleiter
(May 16, 1921 - July 5, 2014)
Gertrude Jean Aspenleiter died peacefully on July 5, 2014 at her residence, the same home she was born in, surrounded by her loving and caring family. Gertrude was born on May 16, 1921 to the late Curtis and Addie (Cattanach) Lester. Gertrude graduated from Marine City High School in 1939. She met the love of her life, Jack Albert Aspenleiter and they married on December 31, 1941. Jack served in the United States Navy during WWII. Jack preceded Gertrude in death on June 18, 1973.Her life was filled with many things. Gertrude was a homemaker that loved to bake and cook for family and friends. She was an active member of her church as well as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Gardening was a hobby that Gertrude enjoyed very much. She spent many hours tending to her beautiful rose garden and shared the flowers with anyone who appreciated them. Animals were an important part of Gertrude’s life. Her compassion towards any animal was something to be admired. She loved to feed the birds and watch them by her window. Her loving cat Misty spent many days curled up next to her – providing comfort and a loving paw. Many wonderful memories were also created at the Family Cabin in Higgins Lake. Gertrude loved watching the deer, spending time listening to the birds and sitting around the evening fire.Gertrude was a woman of many talents - making porcelain dolls, sewing all the clothes by hand, artistic painting, stained glass, cross-stitch, pottery, decoupage and many other things. These wonderful talents created many mementos that her family will forever cherish. Her greatest talent of all was being a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her sons Gary (Shirley) Aspenleiter, Larry Aspenleiter, grandchildren Kari Aspenleiter-McGraw, Heidi Aspenleiter-Cuthbertson (fiancé Jason Hyslop), Matthew (Lyndsay) Aspenleiter, great-grandchildren MaKenna Lynn Aspenleiter, Warren James Cuthbertson, Weston Matthew Hyslop and Cash Curtis Aspenleiter. She was predeceased by her sister Emma Ruth Lester, brothers Ralph and Stanley Lester and her grandson Curtis Albert Aspenleiter. Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm Wednesday July 9th, 2014 in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday July 10, 2014 in Bower-Rose Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City.
