Paul Koertge
Paul Koertge 83 of Monticello, Indiana died January 6, 2011 at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born August 10, 1927 at West Salem, Illinois to the late Paul W. and Aileen (Treadway) Koertge. On September 19, 1948 in the McKee Chapel at Indianapolis, he married Yvonne Williamson and she survives.
He was a graduate of the Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. He co-owned Carter-Koertge Electric in Indianapolis. Paul and Yvonne co-founded the Riviera Complex on Lake Shafer with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Madalynne and Merritt Jones. In the mid 80's Madalynne and Merritt retired and Paul and Yvonne became sole owners of the Riviera Complex. He had been a member of the Brookside Lodge No. 481 F&AM later transferring his membership to Libanus Lodge No. 154 F&AM where he received his fifty year pin. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was a member of the Murat Shrine and also the White County Shrine Club. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He was a past president and secretary of the Monticello Lakes Resorts Association (MLRA). He had been secretary of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce and served on the Innkeepers Tax Board of Directors. He was a member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Lynne (James) Winter of Monticello, Indiana; a son, Stephen Paul (Cathy) Koertge of Ocala, Florida; grandsons, James E. (Rachelle) Winter Jr. of New Palestine, Indiana, Daniel Paul Winter of New Palestine, Indiana; granddaughter, Rachel Lynne (James) Schneider of Beech Grove, Indiana; and two great-granddaughters, Makenna and Morgan Schneider.
Visitation will be from 4pm until 8 pm, Friday, January 14 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. A Shrine walk thru will be at 7 pm Friday at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Saturday, at the Monticello United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating. Military rites will follow services at the church. A second visitation will be held from 2pm until 3pm, Saturday, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center at Washington Park in Indianapolis, with a service immediately following visitation. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello United Methodist Church or to the White County Shrine Club to benefit children's transportation to a Shriners Hospital.
