His death occurred at the residence of his son-in-law, Peter Burkhart, and in his last hours he was surrounded by most of his living children. The immediate cause of his death was la grippe, with which he was afflicted sometime last winter and from which he never fully rallied. The deceased was born at Bobenthal, Bavaria, in June, 1815, and came to America in 1852 and settled at once on a farm in old Monroe. He underwent all the hardships of those early days of farming and was assisted by a faithful wife, who preceded him in death about ten years ago, and by his eldest children. Six children—five daughters and one son—with many grandchildren and some great grandchildren, survive him. His remains were laid alongside of those of his wife in the Catholic graveyard on Sunday morning, with the usual impressive ceremonies of that church conducted by the Rev. Father Fladung. May he rest in peace!
