LEWISPORT - Harold A. "Earl" Bittel, 74, of Lewisport died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Seaton in Evansville. He was born March 9, 1930, in Daviess County, the son of the late Robert and Marie (Gegan) Bittel. He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and served on the Lewisport City Council for 14 years. He was retired from Lewisport Telephone Co., was a former Cub Scout leader, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Lewisport Lions Club, where he was Lion of the Year in 1976. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan and loved farming. He served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Tommy, Bill, Raymond and Sam Bittel. Survivors include his wife, Faye Bittel of Lewisport; four sons, Mike and his wife, Debbie Bittel, of Lewisport, David Bittel of Hawesville, and Jeff and his wife, Sheryl Bittel, and Greg Bittel, all of Lewisport; two daughters, Donna and her husband, Eddie Wheet, of Lewisport and Tina and her husband, Chuck Gray, of Hawesville; three brothers, Edward Bittel of Whitesville and Richard Bittel and Joe Bittel, both of Owensboro; five sisters, Helen Ivanhoe of Elizabeth, N.J., Marie Palmer and Aggie Wissing, both of Louisville, and Millie Bittel and Theresa Lowe, both of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Lewisport, with Father David Kennedy, the Rev. Vic Morris and Sister Rita Lechner officiating. Burial will be in Lewisport Cemetery in Lewisport with military honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport, where a prayer service will be held at 7 this evening.
