He was born in Daviess County, retired as an electrician from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1701 and was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Betty Evans Bittel; two sons, Robert Dwayne Bittel of Chattanooga, Tenn., and James Randall Bittel of Masonville; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Minton and Kathy Jean West, both of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; five brothers, Raymond Bittel, Richard Bittel and Joe Bittel, all of Owensboro, and Ed Bittel of Whitesville and Earl Bittel of Lewisport; and five sisters, Mildred Bittel and Theresa Lowe, both of Owensboro, and Marie Palmer and Agnes Wissing, both of Louisville, and Helen Ivanhyo of New Jersey. Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice Association, Inc., P.O. Box 1403, Owensboro, KY 42302-9925.
