Emily Knopik left this life to join relatives and friends on February 1, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit with Rev. Nick Schneider officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary?s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary at 7. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Emily was born to Emil and Dorothy (Helbling) Hoff on May 3, 1943 in Richardton, ND. As a farm girl she learned to drive at a young age and was very involved in farm and ranch work.
After graduating from St. Mary?s at Richardton she attended Carroll College in Helena, MT. Besides her studies she was a member of the Carrolleers Choral Group. She transferred to Montana State University at Bozeman and completed a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1965. She taught at Forsyth and Melstone in MT and Golva and Beach in ND.
She met Jerome Knopik at Billings during her college years. They were married at St. Mary?s in Richardton on December 27, 1965 by Fr. Thomas Knopik. Two children Leslie and Clark joined the family. In 1969 they relocated to Golva. In 1975 they established Cedar Liquors in Beach. During these years she also worked at 1st State Bank Golva and Farmers and Merchants bank at Beach. In 1979 they were involved in Signal Cable TV and Belfield Cablevision. After the untimely death of Jerome in 1984, she sold Cedar Liquors and was on the Board of Directors for the cable companies and office manager until they were sold in 1986.
In 1986 she moved to Billings, MT to be near relatives and friends. While there she worked at St. Vincent?s Health Care, Eastern Radiology Assoc., Norwest Bank, and Yellowstone Teachers Credit Union. Additionally she was also a member and officer for the Billings Home Economics Assn. She returned to Bismarck in 2005. After her return she worked at the Bank of ND and 3 ND Legislative sessions as an Assistant Sergeant of Arms in the House. She volunteered at St. Alexius Medical Center and the St. Mary?s High School Carnival and belonged to the ?Classy? Red Hat group while residing in Bismarck.
While visiting her children she had the opportunity to travel the Al-Can Highway and many additional sites and locations throughout Alaska, visited plantations in Louisiana and Mississippi, camping in Medora and Ft. Stevenson State Park, ND State Fair, Mexico, and to the missions around San Antonio Texas. Her many interests included remodeling and improving her residence, garage sales, rodeo, football, music, and visiting.
Emily is survived by her daughter Leslie (J.P.) Moszer, Bismarck, ND; her son Clark (Priscilla) Knopik, Bastrop, TX; grandson Jerome F. Knopik and step granddaughter Elexa Ashby, Bastrop, TX; her sisters Kathleen (Jim) McVay, Westminster, CO; Jane (Dave) Will, Bismarck, ND; Joyce Kastner, Loveland, CO; her brothers Ted (Lorna) Hoff, Post Falls, ID; Curt (Brenda) Hoff, Larkspur, CO; Joel (Melanie) Hoff, Anchorage, AK plus the many friends she made along the way.
Waiting for her is her husband Jerome, parents Emil and Dorothy Hoff, sister Karen Bernhardt, grandparents Joseph and Gretchen Helbling and Lee and Catherine Hoff along with many relatives, friends and former students.
In lieu of flowers Emily preferred memorials may be made to Central Dakota Humane Society or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
