Bernetta Kustes
Bernetta Y. "Nete" Kustes, 85, of Keokuk, formerly of Alexandria, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Born April 1, 1922, in Donnellson, she was the daughter of Osborn L. "Happ" and Bertha Jones Kincaid. She married Irvin Boyer, and they later divorced. She married Vincent Kustes. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Kustes was employed in the 1940s at the Keokuk pickle factory and had been retired for a while. She lived in Alexandria with her sister, Vera, for many years; however, they lost their home in the flood of 1993 and then moved to Keokuk.
She enjoyed reading before she lost her eyesight and loved gothic horror and old scary movies.
Survivors include two nephews, Delmar L. "Gomer" Pepple of Keokuk and Tony Kincaid of Muscatine; one niece, Carole James of Muscatine; 11 stepnieces and nephews; two great-nephews; one great-niece; three stepgreat-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two in infancy, and one sister.
Mrs. Kustes' body has been cremated.
A gathering of remembrance for family and friends will be at a later date at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.
