Bio: LOVELAND, CO | Edna (Berreth) Johnson, formerly of Rapid City, SD, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Monday, July 29, 2013, in Loveland.She was born and grew up on a farm near Artas, SD — a German community — to Christina and Edwin Berreth. She had six brothers and two sisters, all deceased except for her younger sister, Lorine.She worked as a waitress in Pierre, SD, where she met her husband Ralph Johnson who was in Pierre for a bowling tournament. After one date, he wrote to her and asked her to come to Denver, CO, to get married. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before he died in 2003.A year after their marriage, they had identical twin daughters in CO, but then moved to his home in Rapid City, shortly after. They lived eight years in R.C., four years in Salt Lake City, and over 40 years in Santa Ana, CA. In 2002, they moved in with daughter Jo and her husband Wray, who had moved to Rapid City when they retired. Ralph died in the spring of 2003. Jo and Edna moved to Loveland in 2006.Edna was a homemaker until her daughters were in high school and then worked in the school cafeterias for over 30 years.Edna loved gardening and had a green thumb. She created beautiful bouquets for family and friends. She and her husband were avid Anaheim Angels Booster Club members. They finally got to see the Angels win the World Series in the fall before Ralph died.Edna is survived by her daughters Josephine Bent of Loveland and Jacqueline Springer (Ron) of Estes Park; three grandsons; a great-grandson; a great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and loving friend and caretaker, Lavonna Arnold, who kept her laughing and dancing to her very last day. She also attended adult day care at Stepping Stones (a fantastic program for seniors) three days a week.A brief memorial service by Bro. Carol Gertsch will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, following a one hour viewing.Interment next to Ralph will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City, following a short viewing at Kirk Funeral Home. Graveside services will be performed by Pastor Bob Savot.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stepping Stones Day Care c/o Viegut Funeral Home.
