Gertrude Bender was born to Martin & Barbara (Preszler) Bender on June 10, 1921 at their home in Hillsview, SD. She married Henry Bitz on July 4, 1944 in Eureka, SD. They made their home there and she spent her life as a housewife and mother to their children whom she loved very much. Henry died on February 13, 1968. Gertrude moved to Aberdeen in 1979. She enjoyed embroidering dishtowels Gertrude was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Gerold (Louise) Bitz, Albert Bitz, Elmer (Judy) Bitz, Wilmer (Judy) Bitz; daughters, Barbara Bitz, Susie (Melvin) Bitz, Judy Huffman, Angie (Clayton) Haak; sisters, Hilda Sieler, Otilla Guthmiller, Lorraine Rohrbach; twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents, Martin & Barbara; one son, Marty Bitz; four daughters, Peggy Donne, Sandy Bitz, Janet Borchard, Mary Albertson; one brother, Albert Bender; two sisters, Eileen Rohrbach, Frieda Bieber; daughter-in-law, Loretta Bitz; son-in-law, Herman Huffman.
