Funeral service for Rick R. Hoff, 63, Aberdeen will be 10:30am, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Winfried J. Schroeder officiating. Military rites will be performed by Sindey L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
Rick died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the VA Memorial Medical Center at Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00pm, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm Monday, July 18 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Rick Raymond Hoff, son of Raymond and Virginia (Brandner) Hoff was born on December 14, 1947. He was raised and attended school in the Roscoe, SD area which is where he went on to graduate from high school. He was active in athletics while attending Roscoe High School, lettering in football, basketball and track. Rick went on to attend Northern State University where he also played football.
Rick enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 and served as a radar man during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge in 1970. At this time Rick began making his home in San Diego, CA. He was employed at National Steel and later went to work for Sunstrand while in California. In 1997 he returned to Aberdeen.
Rick was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed San Diego Chargers Football and San Diego Padres Baseball. Rick liked to play golf and he also enjoyed snow skiing and white water rafting. One of his greatest joys was playing Uno with his great nephew Brady.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother Virginia Hoff of Aberdeen, sister Rhonda Rogers of Aberdeen, niece Melissa (Troy) Rohrbach, great nephew Brady Rohrbach, nephew Greg (Jaime) Rogers, great nieces Tessa and Jenna Rogers and great nephew Drake Rogers.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Raymond Hoff and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
