Karolina Bender Pleines Birth: Mar. 17, 1881 Kardamycheve Odes'ka, Ukraine Death: Apr. 7, 1969 Sacramento Sacramento County California, USA Bio by Mel BENDER: Karolina BENDER born on the 17th of March 1881 in Klein Neudorf, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia was the daughter of Christian BENDER and Elisabetha GROSSHANS. Karolina married August PLEINES in Kassel, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia in February 1903. August and Karolina PLEINES with their son, Adolph, arrived at the Ellis Island, New York on October the 5th 1905, aboard the SS "MAIN", which had departed on September the 28th from Bremen, Germany. They had left their home in Neudorf, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia for their destination of Ashley, North Dakota, where relatives lived. In October of 1905 the family settled ten miles west of Forbes, Dickey County, North Dakota, in Albertha Township. While living near Forbes, the couple had 9 more children. In the fall of 1930, August and Karolina and four of their children moved to Lodi, California. Their trip was made with a Model T Ford and it took them ten days to get there. August PLEINES passed away on December 8, 1931 at Lodi, California. After August's death, Karolina married John Phillip Engel. Karolina passed away on April 7, 1969 at Sacramento, California.
