Clem Wetsch
MINOT - Clem Wetsch, 94, Minot, died April 9, 2007, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Minot. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.
Clem Wetsch was born March 10, 1913, in Mandan, to George and Angelina (Leingang) Wetsch. He was raised on the family farm, south of Mandan. He married Ione Aaker in 1935, in St. Anthony. She died in 2000.
Clem worked at Munitions Dame, in South Dakota, and then for the Campbell Family in construction and cattle ranching. He moved to Minot in 1952, and worked for P&C Electric. Clem also was an independent electrical and mechanical worker. Because of his ingenuity in mechanics, he became and inventor and invented several things. Among his inventions was a corn chopper that cleaned double rows rather than one row. He patented a fishing rod holder with a horn attached, and electric earrings, which were sold by a New York company.
When Clem wasn't working on his inventions, he and Iona would spend time together fishing. Clem also became a pilot.
Clem will be missed by his sister, Margaret Gangl, St. Anthony; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by eight sisters and six brothers-in-law, Eleanore (George) Gangl, Katherine (Pete) Hoffman, Mary (Joe) Eckroth, Caroline (Frank) Schaff, Elizabeth (John) Eckroth, Anna (John) Eckroth, Rose Wetsch, Margaret Wetsch and John Gangl; and three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Martin (Bertha), Thomas (Pauline) and George (Julia).
