She was born on December 27, 1923 in Oldenburg, the oldest child of George Hirt and Alma Berens Hirt.Married to Carl Gillman for 68 years, Georgene was raised on a large farm and attended Immaculate Conception Academy (Oldenburg Academy). She was former stenographer for an attorney in Cincinnati, and later for Romweber Company in Batesville. She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Girls 4-H Club, Mothers Club and the Daughters of Isabella. A devoted wife and mother, she was an excellent seamstress, creative quilt maker, and wonderful homemaker.Survivors include her husband Carl, her children Sr. Mary Ellen Gillman of Oldenburg, John (Florence) Gillman of San Diego, California, Rose (Don) Hughes of Pittsboro, Sr. Therese Gillman of Cincinnati, OH, George (Suzy) Gillman of Brookville, Charlie (Donna) Gillman of Batesville, Steve (Cindy) Gillman of Indianapolis, Carol (Ray) Ronnebaum of Milan, Annette (Paul) Gillman of Oldenburg, and Carl (Catherine) Gillman of Florence, Kentucky, a sister, Barb Hirt of Brookville, and a brother, Dr. Paul Hirt of Greensburg; 21 grand-children and 22 great grand-children.Besides her parents, Georgene was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan M. Gillman and Mitzi Seiter, both of Brookville.Visitation will be held Thursday, December 18th, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home in Brookville with a private Rosary Service prior to visitation. Christian Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Friday, December 19th, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Cyprian Berens, OFM officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.Memorials may be directed to St. Michael?s Church.
