Frank H. Goebel was the was the 2nd child born to August (Gart) Goebel and Barbara (Babbit) Nebel Goebel. He was delivered by a midwife (Mrs Becker at the family home located at 254 Blackhawk Street in the 22 Ward of downtown Chicago. His father August was working as a Shipping Clerk at the time. Exactly what brought the family to Chicago during this time frame is unknown, possibly they had family that was there or the prospects for employment were better there.
In any event by 1900 they were back in Cincinnati living at 214 Pete Street in what is now the Over the Rhine section of downtown Cincinnati. The area where their house is located in now vacant land owned by the City of Cincinnati. Frank attended school, probably going to the 8th grade. As soon as possible he entered the workforce, first working as a teamster. With the advancement of the automobile, he worked at other jobs finally apprenticing as a machinist. He was left handed and apparently that was a desirable trait for many machine shops. He unfortunately developed a drinking problem, often spending a good part of his paycheck on this vice. About 1913 he married Miss Mable Tekulve who was born near the town of Morris, Indiana. Frank never owned a car and always used the streetcars to get back and forth to work. The family moved quite a bit in the early years, possibly to stay close to his places of employment. Frank and Mabel had 9 children 6 of whom lived to maturity. Unfortunately his drinking caused problems within the family and the children grew up remembering the bad side of their father. He was often abusive to them and their mother when he was drinking. Frank suffered a massive heart attack on May 3, 1943 and was pronounced dead on arrival at Cincinnati General Hospital. No doubt his lifestyle as well as the long hours spent in the dirty machine shops of the time were a contributing factor in his early death. He is buried in the unblessed section of St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Bernard, Ohio.
