MAYSVILLE -- Gene P. Hesler, 78, a resident of the Mount Carmel Road, died Monday at the Veterans Administration Hospital on Leestown Road in Lexington.
Mr. Hesler was born in Mason County on Nov. 27, 1929, to the late Charles S. and Mary Humphries Hesler.
He was a farmer and a member of the Orangeburg Christian Church. Gene loved his family, his home and especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The entire family enjoyed going to area horse shows where Mr. Hesler would show his Road Horses and Ponies. They all spent many weekends at the shows and he made many friendships that lasted through the years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 thru 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Thacker Hesler; one son, Terry A. (Angie Fetters) Hesler; two daughters, Vickie Ritchie and Sheila Hord, both of Maysville; six grandchildren, Jason (Marlena) Shoemaker, Jessica (Nathan) Myrick, Samantha Hesler, Holly Hesler, Bethany Fetters and Caitlyn Fetters; four great-grandchildren, Kendra Shoemaker, Keydron Myrick, Calib Hesler and Javen Myrick; one brother, Stanley Hesler of Mason County; and two sisters, Mary Hesler of Highland Heights and Virginia Askren of Lynchburg, Ohio.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Elmer Hesler; one sister, Christine Hesler; and one grandchild, Cassidy Henderson. Services for Gene Hesler will be held at 11 a.m., today, at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. David Shoemaker officiating.
Burial will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Denham, Lucky Wallingford, Shawn Henderson, Doug Carmack, Kenny Sapp, Jeff Purcell and Jim Schack

Funeral services for Gene Hesler will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. David Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6: until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Denham, Lucky Wallingford, Shawn Henderson, Doug Carmack, Kenny Sapp, Jeff Purcell and Jim Schack.
