T. ANTHONY ? Frank Helbling, 85, died Oct. 1, 2010, at his residence in St. Anthony. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Chad Gion as celebrant. Frank has chosen to donate his body for medical research. A private burial of his cremains will take place at a later date.
The family will receive visitors one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Frank was born May 20, 1925, to Jack E. and Anna (Leingang) Helbling. He was raised and educated in the St. Anthony area. He married Eva Hoffman on Oct. 14, 1946. Farming and ranching was his primary occupation. He supplemented these efforts with various activities, including owning and operating Helbling Well Drilling for several years. He purchased his grandfather?s homestead farm in the early 1960?s and continued working and living there until the time of his death.
A talent in woodworking; Frank created many beautiful wood pieces. Family was very important to Frank; he had a special closeness to his children and grandchildren. Frank?s generous nature would have him there to help anyone at any time.
Frank will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Eva; children, Ron Helbling, Las Vegas, Sue Butler, Bismarck, Wayne Helbling, El Paso, Texas, Richard Helbling and Denise Hansen, Mandan, Patricia (Charles) Geiger, St. Anthony, John Helbling, St. Anthony, and Pam Helbling and Richard Spoon, El Paso, Texas; sisters and brothers, Felicia Lang, California, Margaret (John) Krance, Bismarck, Edward (Helen), Mandan, Bernice (Armando) Onoro, Calif., Betty Gerhardt and Stan Rohde, Arizona, Darlene Helbling, Washington, Gladys (Ray) Eckroth, Oregon, Jim (Della), Bismarck; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom; grandson, Todd Helbling; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Helbling.
