  [S927] Obituary. Funeral mass for Mathias ?Max? Haag, 74, of Dickinson, will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Austin Vetter celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Wenceslaus Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006 with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson led by Deacon Ron Keller. Max passed away due to lung cancer on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006 at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Dickinson. Mathias Haag was born on September 11, 1931 to Leonard and Annie (Martian) Haag, the only son of seven children, on the family farm located in Dunn County. Max helped on the family farm where he grew up. He received his education in the Iota #1 School District. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and after being honorably discharged, Max moved to Yakima, WA and worked for Hanson Fruit Company. During this time, he was married to Velma Lane. He remained in Yakima area for over twenty-five years before returning to North Dakota. On his return, he assisted his aging parents. Max was always ready to work and help whomever, whenever, and doing whatever was needed. He also worked on one of the first oil exploration drillings in Dunn County. After Max?s father died, he retired in 1992 and moved into Pioneer Haven. In July 2005, he became a resident of Saint Benedict?s Nursing Home. Max liked hunting, fishing, and was a great gardener. He enjoyed mechanic and tinkering on all engines and motors. Max also had a great sense of humor. He was true steward of the land and loved nature. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Saint Philip?s Catholic Church in Hirschville, ND. He is survived by six sisters: Florence Dauenhauer of Yakima, WA; Jane (Tony) Schneider of Zillah, WA; Irene (Brad) Ravellette of Oaktown, IN; Cecilia (Mick) Manns of Fairbanks, AK; Carol (Eldon) Miller of Williston, ND; and Francisca Haag of Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donated the Saint Benedicts Health Center Memorial fund.
