Bio: Herman Joseph Hauck passed away on Sept. 12, 2019, with loving family members at his side. Herman was born to Joseph and Anna (Dauenhauer) Hauck on Jan. 29, 1929, in Taylor, ND. He and his six brothers and sisters were raised on the family farm near Richardton, ND. In 1946, the family moved to Dickinson.Herman attended Model High School. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Volesky. Herman graduated from high school in June 1950. He and Dorothy married on Oct. 10th of that same year. Herman worked for a construction company for several years before starting Hauck Millwork Shop, building kitchen cabinets. The company grew becoming Trimline (TMI) constructing institutional casework.Herman changed careers in the early 1970?s, selling residential and commercial real estate. Herman discovered a love of designing and building, developing St. Luke?s nursing home in Dickinson. In 1973, Herman moved the family to Billings and worked hard to help them adapt by enrolling them in summer art classes and hikes in the nearby mountains.Eventually, Herman began Team Realty, a residential and commercial real estate firm. A project he was particularly proud of was the development of Kings Green Subdivision, targeted to help first-time homeowners achieve their dream of owning a home. In 1981, Herman was named Home Builder of the year by the National Association of Home Builders.Herman began K & H Corporation with Ted Kober and the Goodman Group and developed Westpark Village (a retirement facility), the first of its kind in Billings. Westpark set the standard for future retirement facilities in the area. Herman resided at Westpark following Dorothy?s passing in 2015 until the time of his death.Herman?s final project, as Pioneer Forest Products, culminated in being awarded the largest tree stewardship contract ever awarded by the U.S. Forest Service, resulting in the unofficial title of ?King of the Forest.? Herman possessed the innate ability to conceptualize building projects and a dogged determination to see a project through to its end.Throughout his life with Dorothy, a marriage spanning nearly 65 years, Herman loved to celebrate any and all milestones. He loved entertaining, practical jokes, travel in their motor home, and dancing polka and waltz. Herman and Dorothy were instrumental in the beginning of the Big Sky Polka Club. He loved playing announcer (a la Lawrence Welk) and videotaping the clubs? monthly dances.Herman is survived by his children: Kevin (Marita) of Billings, Lynn (Peder) Sogard, Flower Mound, TX, JoLynn (Jim) Yerger, Billings, Todd (Kaylene), Billings, Melanie (Russ) Tolman, Billings; a brother, Edward Hauck of Enid, OK; two sisters, Virginia Fox, St. Cloud, MN, and Karen (Vince) Decker of San Diego, CA/St. Cloud, MN. Herman is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Hauck, Andrea (Chris) Burrough, Mike (Laura) Hauck, Whitney (Jeremy) Martin, Britt (Brian) Carman, Jake (Tanna) Yerger, Sarah (Zachary) Hartman, Joe (Daniella) Hauck, Carson (Sarah) Hauck, Duncan Hauck, Andy (Allyssa) McCreary and Alex McCreary. He was also the proud great-grandparent of six children, soon to be eight. Herman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; sisters Elsie Krank and Agnes Rang; and a brother, Francis Hauck.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2055 Woody Drive, followed by interment at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. A lunch will be served at St. Thomas Church in the multipurpose room.If desired, memorials can be sent to Billings Catholic Schools Foundation (St. Francis Music Program).Published by Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, Billings, MT
