Dr. John Daniel Lynch III, 94, died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at home in Roseville, MN, with his wife of 71 years, Eleanor, by his side.
John was born July 30, 1917, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Veiock) Lynch and grew up on the family farm near Raritan, IL.
He graduated from Stronghurst High School and completed a 3-year Pre-Med degree at the Univ. of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. John received his MD degree from the Univ. of Illinois Medical School in Chicago in 1939.
In 1942, John joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps and in late May, 1944 his medical unit landed on France's Omaha Beach and followed the U.S. army across Europe and into Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1945. He finished his residency in Internal Medicine in Chicago in 1949.
In 1950, after moving to Manitowoc WI, John, with three other doctors, founded the Manitowoc Clinic, where he was an Internist until retiring in 1983.
John and Eleanor travelled extensively throughout the US, and internationally. He had a great interest in photography, genealogy, and technology.
John is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sister, Marie Lynch Missavage; sons Larry (Lingling), Brian (Rose), and Michael; daughter Kathy Farrell (Mike); nephew Gene Dixson (Peggy); grandchildren Evan, Christopher, and Matthew Lynch, Jesse and Colleen Farrell, Haoshan Jiang, Ouwen Zheng; great grandchildren Christian, Caston, Grayson and Madison Lynch. Close family members, countless friends and patients will remember him fondly.
A celebration of John's life will be held in MN in November. Private internment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc.
