Mark Newhart

Mark Allen Newhart, 62, of Lafayette died at 5:04 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. Born October 9, 1948 in Lafayette, he was the son of Shirley A. (Smith) Newhart of Lafayette and the late Roger C. Newhart. Mr. Newhart was a 1967 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and attended Vincennes University and Indiana State University. He married Sally Louise McKinniss in January of 1971 in Lafayette, and she survives. Mr. Newhart was a journeyman carpenter with Local #215 and had worked at Purdue University for 26 years before retiring in January 2011. Since his retirement he has worked at the Purdue Bookstore and volunteered at Food Finders. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Sons of American Legion. He enjoyed watching Purdue football, Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers; flying and traveling; enjoyed spending time with his family; and always put others before himself. Surviving with his wife and mother are his three children, Amanda Jeffords (husband, Craig) of Milwaukee, WI; Matthew Newhart (companion, Liz Brothers) and Douglas Newhart (wife, Dru) both of Lafayette; and a brother, Richard Newhart of Lafayette. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Caeley, Quinton, and Alexah Newhart. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Lore Blinn Gibson officiating. Burial to follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
