He was 60 years old. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 4, 2010 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Yankton, with Rev. Joe Schulte and Rev. Paul Opsahl officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be 4 to 7 PM, Sunday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. Gary was loved for his affable spirit, his passion for Green Bay Packer Football and his tireless love and energy for his adorable grandchildren. Those cherishing his memory are his three children: Todd and Renee Mettler of Hartford, SD; Bret and Kelly Mettler of Boston, MA; and Mike and Mari Mehlbrech of Vermillion, SD; mother Delores Mettler of Yankton, SD; brother Larry and Kathy Mettler of Yankton, SD; sister Janet and Ben Sharp of Interior, SD; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His father Delmar Mettler precedes him in death. Pallbearers for the ceremony include Ryan Mettler of Plano, TX; Heath Mettler of Norfolk, NE; Travis Sharp of Rapid City, SD; Jess Donkersloot of Worthington, MN; Bob Goeden of Crofton, NE; and Jim VanDerWerff of Sioux Falls, SD.
