  [S927] Obituary. Delores Elaine Mettler, age 84 of Yankton lost her battle with liver cancer on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, February 11, 2011 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Yankton, SD with the Revs. Joe Schulte and Paul Opsahl officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitation will start at 5 PM, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are Heath Mettler, Ryan Mettler, Bret Mettler, Travis Sharp, Zachary Mettler, Shay Robinson and Todd Mettler (serving in Afghanistan). Honorary pallbearers are Heather Anderson, Darcy Zandstra, Mari Mehlbrech, Melanie Tolton. Delores Elaine (Herrboldt) Mettler, daughter of Reinhold and Martha (Handel) Herrboldt was born on December 29, 1926 at Menno, SD. Delores went to school through the eighth grade. She married Delmar Mettler on September 23, 1945, at the Salem Reformed Church, Menno SD. To this union 3 children were born; Larry James, Gary Allen and Janet Kay. They farmed for 25 years on a farm 3 miles North of Menno. Delores & Delmar owned & operated the D & D Clothing Store in Menno for 10 years before selling and moving to Yankton, SD in 1979. Delores managed the Hillcrest Apartments in Yankton for many years before retiring in 2005. Delores will be remembered for her strong spirit, dedication to her tenants, enthusiasm for all sports, her neatly embroidered tea towels and her love of life and family. Those cherishing her memory are her children, Larry and his wife Kathy of Yankton, SD, Janet and her husband Ben Sharp of Interior, SD and hr 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delmar and son, Gary.
