He loved spending time with his family and friends where he always has a nugget or tow of knowledge and experience to share interspersed with dry humor and laughter. His other enjoyments were golfing with his sons, feeding birds and squirrels while watching their antics, as he would make a more complicated course for them to get to the food. He always had at least one project a day to accomplish and still cut his own firewood. He was locally and nationally known for his “Xpert Art” displays specifically “The Can Crusher”, “A Hole-In-One” and “Lady Pumping Water” which were displayed in 26 states and small engine shows. These and other displays were artistically planned and made by Don using old farm tools and equipment. Articles on his art were published in several newspapers and film clips were shown on local TV. He has donated a permanent display to Williams Park, Gibsonburg, OH. There are also 3 sculptures on display in Whitehouse, Ohio around the quarry.
