BEALLSVILLE -- Joseph N. "Joe" Gallagher, 85, of Malaga, died Wednesday (Aug. 26, 2009) near Malaga.
He was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Eldon, a son of the late George and Emma Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, and St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, and the St. Francis Society.
He served in World War II in the 393rd Infantry Division. In 1954, Joe founded Gallagher Monuments in Malaga. Even though he was retired, his heart was always with his son and grandson in the monument business. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose ultimate enjoyment came from The Green Knoll Farm and showing horses and cattle with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Eunice Hunkler Gallagher; a brother, Wilford Gallagher; and a sister, Mary Starr.
He is survived by his five children, Randall (Lisa) Gallagher of St. Clairsville, Diane Gallagher of Columbus, Ron (Cathy) Gallagher of Malaga, Rick (GiGi) Gallagher of Waynesville and Kevin (Susan) Gallagher of Texas; a brother, Gerard (Barbara) Gallagher of Lore City; three sisters, Pearl (Walter) Reischman of Barnesville, Leola Brown of Newark and Martha (Tom) Terry of Reynoldsburg; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Lindsay, Justin, Jason, Karrie, Brandi, Stephan, Taylor, Eric, Kathryn and Dean; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Parker and Brady; a sister-in-law, Lois Stephen of Malaga; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held and the Rosary was recited Friday, Aug. 28 at Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik on Aug. 29 at St. John the Baptist Church, Miltonsburg.
Interment followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, Joe's family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Sylvester School, 119 Wayne St., Woodsfield, OH 43793.
