Sylvia Lundien Leininger, 96, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone and formerly of rural Gilbert, died of cancer Monday, June 7, at the home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel. Graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Prairie-Lawn Cemetery near Boxholm.
Sylvia was born March 24, 1908, in Ogden, the daughter of Arthur and Hilma (Anderson) Sampson. She married Everett J. Lundien in Boone County. The couple lived in Boxholm. Everett died in 1956. She married Louis L. Leininger Nov. 15, 1964, in Omaha, Neb. and the couple farmed near Gilbert before moving to Boone in 1970. Sylvia was a homemaker and wife. She enjoyed gardening and lawn care.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Karen Lundien of Visalia, Calif., and Dennis and Deborah Lundien of Sacramento, Calif.; one step-son, Philip Leininger and wife Cheryl of Ames; four grandchildren, Kelli Grabau and husband Dennis of Marshalltown, Deborah Bockwoldt and husband Mark of Stanhope, Bryan Lundien and wife Courtney, and Nicole Lundien, all of Sacramento, Calif.; two step-grandsons, Kevin Leininger and wife Penny of Lawrence, Kan. and Brian Leininger and wife Laurie of Ashville, N.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Dean E. Lundien; one brother; five sisters; and one granddaughter, Lori Lundien.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Friday and from noon until time of service at Eastern Star Chapel.
Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
