Schweitzer Jr., Theodore Francis "Ted"
SCHWEITZER, THEODORE FRANCIS, JR., "TED," 52, of Louisville, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. He worked in parts sales for Ford Motor Corporation and was an independent driver for DHL and member of the Cathedral of the Assumption. "His heart's desire and passion was as a professional musician and a member of the Rockin' Horse Band with his special, longtime friends, Sammy Pate and Jon Pring." He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore F. "Teets" Schweitzer Sr. and Anne Marie "Tootie" Gnau Schweitzer. He is survived by his wife, the former Elaine Bender; his sons, Matthew and Christopher Schweitzer; his sisters, Beverly Anne Jordan and Theresa Gibson (Butch); several aunts and in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a multitude of great friends, including many musicians with whom he had played music. He is also survived by his dog, Logan. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. 5th St., with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Bosse Funeral Home, Barret and Ellison Avenues. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Musicians Emergency Relief Fund (MERF) or to the Kentucky Humane Society.

SMITH, MARGARET L. BEARD, 97, of Louisville, died Friday at Mt. Holly Nursing Home. She was a native of Shelbyville, KY, a Baptist and a retired domestic. She is survived by a son, Robert K. Smith; a daughter-in-law, Verna L. Jones; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grand-children; and 31 great- great-grandchildren. Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday at W.P. Porter Mortuary, 2611 Virginia Ave. Burial: Green Meadows Cemetery. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Monday.

JEFFERSONVILLE SMITH, MARY LUELLAN, 77, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Clark Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Winchester, KY, born February 3, 1927. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Smith, mother, Mattie Smith, and father, Leo Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Norton (Dave) of New Canaan, CT, and Cheryl Carpenter (Steve Havens) of Jeffersonville; son, Donald R. Carpenter (LaVerne) of Tampa, FL; sisters, Wanda Whitham of Albuquerque, NM, and Joyce Onken and Bonnie Miller, both of Havana, IL; and eight grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Scott Funeral Home's Main Street Chapel, with interment in Pleasant Run Cemetery in Leitchfield, KY. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Southern Indiana or to the American Cancer Society.

Spanyer, James Russell
SPANYER, JAMES RUSSELL, 77, of Jeffersontown, passed away Friday at Baptist Hospital East after a long illness. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1944 and served as a pharmacist's mate in the United States Navy during World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Xavier University in 1950. In 1986, he retired from General Motors after 35 years of service. He was a devoted and active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and an amateur genealogist. "His family was everything to him." He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Ann Patrice Mangeot; seven children, Amy S. Hausman (Jim), Andrew J. Spanyer (Mary) and Christopher J. Spanyer (Ellen), all of Louisville; Mary Elizabeth Kreilein (George) of New Albany, IN, Mark T. Spanyer (Karen) of Glenco, KY, Stephen P. Spanyer (Jaquie) of Estes Park, CO, and Sarah S. Simon of Ashland, OR; 12 grand- children, Emily, Allison, Haven, Harrison, Colleen, Jakob and Siena Spanyer, Elizabeth and Emma Kreilein, Breanna Eberlein, Elaia Simon and Leslie Mooring; and eight siblings, Millicent Reid, Barbara Eckert, Gail Morris, J. Carroll Spanyer, D. Vincent Spanyer, Catherine Vessels, Martha Smith and Jerry Spanyer. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday at his church, 12707 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the church. Ratterman & Sons, 3800 Bardstown Rd., is handling arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to his church's building fund or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

STICKLER, L. JANEAL, 55, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Janeal was born on February 5, 1949, in Lebanon, KY, and lived in Louisville from 1959-1979. She was preceded in death by her father, Patrick C. Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Michael and David; daughter, Michelle; mother, Virginia Thomas; grandmother, Josephine Mattingly; brothers, Danny and Kevin; sisters, Darlene Grant and Marsha Bixler; and her grandchildren, Jessica and Victoria Lowrie and Sam, Elizabeth and Dawson Stickler. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 7005 Tangelo Dr., with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bards-town Rd.

STOLLE, DONALD A., of Vine Grove, KY, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. He was a native of Ft. Thomas, KY, and a former employee of the Lusk Group. He was a member of United Church of Christ, Kosair Shrine and Syrian Temple and a 50-year member of both the Valley of Kentucky Scottish Rite and Ft. Thomas Masonic #808. He is survived by his wife, Neva Stolle; a son, John Stolle; a daughter, Cherrie Barrett; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Cremation was chosen. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Thomas. Owen Funeral Home, Dixie Hwy., in charge of arrangements.

STROMOWSKY, VERNA D., 98, of Louisville, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at the Masonic Home of Kentucky. She was the former Verna Dunford, a retired clerk for Sears, Roebuck and Company and a past president of the PTA at Charles D. Jacobs Elementary School. She was a member of Car-lisle Avenue Baptist Church since 1917, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years, sang in its choir and past president of its Women's Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E., and son, Harry E. Stromowsky Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Rosalee Jones of Hebron, KY, and Mae Ann Eans; a son, Dr. Philip J. Stromowsky; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd., with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, the Masonic Home of Kentucky or The Gideons International.
