Hammer, Richard F.
Richard F. Hammer, age 84, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2013 at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Enright) Hammer. Richard was born in Detroit, MI on January 18, 1929 son of the late Frederick and Mildred (Rau) Hammer and has been a Shelton resident since 1995 coming from Middletown, NJ. He was a proud US Navy veteran. After his service to our country, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame and loved everything that had to do with the school. Richard went on to become an accountant for AT&T for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Bernardo Council #1350, where he was very active with the pancake breakfasts and the road race committee. Richard was the loving father of Lori Faenza (Jeff), Linda Lindquist (Robert), Rick Hammer (Bob Brennick) and Gretchen Delaney (Timothy). He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Jeffrey, Andrew, Matt, Brad, T.J., Kristen, Kate, Lauren and Jack, his sister, Donna Lee Pasho, his brothers, Tom and Jim Hammer and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Art, Larry and Ralph Hammer and sister, Jean Robbins. Friends may greet the family on Friday morning from 9 - 10am at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton, CT. At 10am his funeral will leave the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church in Shelton at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675
