  [S927] Obituary. WEST, Vera Flading, 87, of Wheeling died Monday, October 5, 2009 at Ohio Valley Medical Center. Vera was born February 28, 1922 in Wheeling, the daughter of the late Edward D. and Nettie (Burkhart) Flading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold E. West in 2002; her brothers, Roy E. and Robert H. Flading, and her sister, Evelyn Flading Barnes. Vera was a member of the former St. Joan of Arc Church, where she served as treasurer of the Christian Mothers, on Parish Council for three years, and member of the Parish Choir. For many years, Vera worked at the former Watkins and Trott Card and Gift Shop in Wheeling. Vera is survived by her three sons; Jonathan Scott West of Wheeling, Christopher H. West and his wife Cindy of Triadelphia, and David E. West of Wheeling; her two daughters, Sally Anne Jochum and her husband Bruce of Wheeling, Janet L. Sheets and her husband Steve of Orlando, Florida; her seven grandchildren, David L. Winiesdoffer, II of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Melissa J. Roeder and her husband Sean of Orlando, Katie Anne and Addie Rose Jochum of Wheeling, Jessica and Casey M. West of Wheeling and their mother Debbie West, Christian Hunter West of Triadelphia; her two great-grandchildren Brooke A. Roeder and Ian Bradley Roeder of Orlando and her sister, Joan G. Kirsch of Wheeling; and several nieces and nephews. Private visitation for the family will be followed by friends being invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Fr. Frank O'Kruta, celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made in Vera's memory to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 159 Edgington Lane, Wheeling, WV 26003 or the charity of the donor's choice.
