Scher, 82, Huntington, died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday (April 5, 2000) at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Mr. Scher was retired. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1014. He had been a resident of Huntington County since 1932. He was born June 19, 1917, in Carter, Mont. He married Jane F. Schortgen Oct. 10, 1945. His wife survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janice Scher, Huntington, and Julia Scher, Avilla; a son, Jeffrey Scher, Columbia City; a sister, Sister Yvonne Scher SSND, Milwaukee, Wis.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jon A. Scher and Jerome A. Scher; a daughter, Joyce M. Scher; and three brothers, Bother Gilbert Scher CSC, James Scher and Clarence Scher. Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to SS.
