OBITUARY
Richard Andrew Zaunbrecher
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at St. Pius X Catholic Church honoring the life of Richard Andrew Zaunbrecher, 84, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008.
He will be laid to rest in the St. Leo Cemetery in Roberts Cove, La.
The Rev. Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the funeral service. Karen Melancon, accompanied by the St. Pius X Choir will sing for the service, "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria" and "Old Rugged Cross".
Richard was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Maxie, La., to William F. Zaunbrecher and Anna Marie Leonards Zaunbrecher. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1943-1945 in the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion with campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After returning from the war, he began a 32-year career with Columbia Gulf Transmission Company. Upon retirement, he became an avid woodworker. He created numerous beautiful pieces, many of which are proudly displayed in churches, schools, and homes of friends and family across the nation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 62 years and received the Honors of the Fourth Degree in 1988.
Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Verna Johnson Zaunbrecher of Lafayette; two daughters, Katherine Reischman of Columbia, Tennessee, and Anne Ledet and husband René of Lafayette; four sons, Edwin of West Lafayette, Indiana, Richard, Jr. and wife Judy of Concord, Mass, Alan and wife Susan of Covington, and Don and wife Susan of Cincinnati, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, Robert Reischman and wife Bethany, John Reischman and wife Alison, Ann Lindsey Thomas, Emily and Zack Zaunbrecher, Virginia and Becky Zaunbrecher, Austin, Davis and Afton Zaunbrecher, Chris Ledet and wife Kathryn, Marcus and Catherine Ledet; four great grandchildren, Kimberlyn, Emma, Andrew and Luke Reischman; two brothers, Felix and Bud Zaunbrecher; four sisters, Mary Agnes Fabacher, Theresa Broussard, Jo Ann Ronkartz, and Willietta Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul, and son-in-law Dennis Reischman.
Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be his six granddaughters, René Ledet, Felix and Bud Zaunbrecher, and Jasper and Tom Johnson.
The family requests that visitation be observed Saturday, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7 p.m. Further visitation will continue Sunday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Martin & Castille Funeral Home, 330 St. Landry, Lafayette.
