DAUENHAUER, Donald M.
“Double D”
Was born in Spokane, WA on August 27, 1943.
Don grew up in the Valley and graduated from Central Valley High School in 1961.
He went on to earn his degree from Eastern Washington State College and serve in the Army Reserves.
In his early years, Don earned the Order of the Arrow as a Boy Scout, was a Safety Patrol officer, and was a life-long member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church where he played basketball in the church league.
He loved to organize his siblings and the neighborhood kids for sports.
In school, Don played football and wrestled.
He ran in almost every Bloomsday and many Coeur d’Alene half marathons.
When he was a teenager, he worked at a fruit stand on Sprague, and also loaded train cars with flour sacks for the Sperry Company.
He said it got him in shape for football.
Don was the consummate salesman, selling everything from shoes at Kinney’s Shoe Store to cars and trucks for many local car dealerships.
Don owned and operated Double D’s Tavern on Trent for many years.
He loved to spend time on the lake in his boat.
Don was an avid local sports fan, cheering on his beloved CV Bears, EWU Eagles, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Seattle Seahawks.
He was extremely proud of his daughter, Lisa, and his grandsons, Matt and Evan, and enjoyed watching their music performances and sporting events.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Marie Dauenhauer; and his sister-in-law, Jean Sparling.
He is survived by his brothers, Michael Sparling and Robert Dauenhauer and sister-in-law, Vicki; his sister, Kathleen Lund and brother-in-law, Steve; his daughter, Lisa Harding and son-in-law, Andy; his grandsons, Matthew Heritage and Evan Peters; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home in the Valley on Monday, April 25th at 11 am.
A Celebration of Life will follow at The Ref on Sprague.
Memorial contributions can be made in Don’s name to the Athletic Fund at North Pines Middle School where his daughter, Lisa, is the Athletic Director - 701 North Pines, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
