Leo T. Scher
Leo T. Scher, 87, CR 300W, died at 8 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 20, 2005) at the Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.Mr. Scher was the former owner of the Hay Market Restaurant and Polar Bear Drive In, both in Huntington, and The Ennis Restaurant in Columbia City. He also farmed in Clear Creek Township.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 160 in Roanoke, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689 in Huntington.He was born July 27, 1917, in Huntington, to Peter C. and Theresa M. Miller Scher. He married Evonne M. Karriger April 14, 1941; his wife died Jan. 24, 1961.Survivors include two sons, Ronald L. Scher, Warren, and Jack R. Scher, Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. James D. (Jean A.) Butts, Bippus; a brother, Donald Scher, Vero Beach, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark Scher and Marcellus Scher.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father John Guimond officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Peabody Retirement Community in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N.
