VIEW MAGDALENA'S VIDEO TRIBUTE
Magdalena Mohr, 95, Hosmer, SD, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 1, 2012 at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Hosmer, with Pastor Patrick Hahn leading the service. Interment follows at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer. Music provided by the Prairie Harmony Singers will include ?What a day that will Be? and ?Lord, take my hand and lead me?. The congregation will sing ?How great Thou Art?, ?Jesus, still lead On?, and ?Children of the Heavenly Father?. Ushers will be Ivan Schumacher and Kenny Hieb.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM-9:00 PM Sunday at Lien Funeral Home with Magdalena?s family present from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Magdalena Guthmiller, daughter of Kathrina (Mayer) and Theobold Guthmiller, was born E of Hosmer, Sangamon TWSHP, on December 21, 1916. She was raised there and attended a Sangamon TWSHP Rural School through the 8th grade. Following her schooling, she stayed and worked on the farm. She married Julius Mohr at Jehovah Lutheran Church NE of Hosmer on September 27, 1936. They lived on the Mohr farm 12 miles NE of Hosmer until 1964, when they moved into Hosmer. She was employed at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home for two years and also, along with Julius, was St. John?s Church janitor for 9 years. Magdalena had lived at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home since August 2004. She belonged to and was a longtime organist at Jehovah Lutheran Church until it dissolved in 1957. Since then she?s belonged to St. John?s Church in Hosmer. She also belonged to the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home Auxiliary and the Hosmer Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed embroidering and loved flowers.
Magdalena is survived by one son James (Marcella) Mohr of Hosmer; one sister Rose Kranzler of Aberdeen, SD; daughter-in-law MaryLou Mohr of Hosmer; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1951, her mother in 1961, her husband on May 26, 2011, one son (Floyd), four brothers (August, Paul, and two infants), and five sisters (Martha Weishaar, Clara Schumacher, Alma Walth, Alvina Walth, and Melitha Walth).
Honorary bearers will be Rachel Geier of Roscoe, SD, and Colton Mohr and Mitch Mohr of Hosmer.
Casketbearers will be Jeffery, Cathy, and Kipp Mohr of Hosmer, and Kenny, Carol, and Allison Geier of Roscoe.
Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
