Katharina Bender Schnabel Birth: May 12, 1884, Russian Federation Death: Mar. 16, 1987 Ashley McIntosh County North Dakota, USA Funeral services for Katherina Schnabel, 102, will be held Wednesday, March 18, 1987, at 11 a.m. at the Ashley Baptish Church in Ashley, ND, with Rev. Allan Gerber officiating. Katherina Schnabel, daughter of Martin and Christina (Knoll) Bender, was born May 12, 1884, in Kassel, South Russia. She came to the United Stated in 1885 and settled with her parents near Venturia. She was married to Jacob Schnabel on Jan. 16, 1906, at Venturia. Their farm home was located 9 miles west of Venturia. In 1919, they moved to the city of Venturia. She was active in her church, serving in the ladies aid and was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Her husband Jacob died in 1966. She had been in ill health, spending the last 10 years of her life at the Wishek Nursing Home and died at the Wishek hospital on March 16, 1987, two months short of her 103rd birthday. Survivors include a son, Berthold Schnabel of Ashley; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Christina Schrenk of Aberdeen, Bertha Krause of Lodi, CA, and Frieda Krause, of Fargo. Her parents, husband, and infant daughter Tabea, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Reuben Bender, William Krause, Alvin Dockter, Albert Bender, Bennie Aipperspach and Milton Schrenk. Burial will be in the Ashley City Cemetery. Holte Funeral Homes Inc. will be in charge of arrangements.
