Iona Koerner FEBRUARY 27, 2015 BY MLCARLSEN LEAVE A COMMENT Iona Koerner Date of Birth: April 07, 1924 Died on: February 27, 2015 Eureka, SD-Funeral service for Iona Koerner, 90, of Eureka will be 10:00 am, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Eureka Reformed Church. The Rev. James Grossmann will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery. There will be a prayer service Wednesday at 6:30 pm with visitation from 4:30-6:30 pm at the funeral home. Iona died February 27, 2015 at Avera Eureka Community Hospital. Iona Mutschler, daughter of Fred and Helena (Oster) Mutschler was born April 7, 1924 two miles northwest of Eureka. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Allan Koerner on October 21, 1945 in Zion Lutheran Church at Eureka. They moved onto the Jakob Koerner farm where Allan grew up. Here they did general farming. Iona enjoyed doing yard work, gardening and planting flowers. She also helped with the farm chores. After living on the farm for 40 years, they moved into their new home in the Sunrise addition in Eureka. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden in Eureka. In her later years, Iona liked to paint with watercolors and oils, especially nature scenes and wildlife. Iona moved to assisted living in 2009 and to the nursing home on May 11, 2010. Iona was a member of Eureka Reformed Church and a charter member of the Reformed Ladies Aide. She was a former member of the Eureka Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club and a bowling league. Iona enjoyed playing cards with family and friends Iona is survived by her brother, Clarence Mutschler of Eureka and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (5-9-2007), sister, Ellenora Knittel and two brothers, Herbert and Marvin Mutschler. Casketbearers will be Milton Koerner, Gordon Knittel, Bruce Mutschler, Mike Neuharth, Scott Mutschler and Greg Hoff. The organist will be Michelle Grossmann. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Eureka Reformed Church. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
