Birth: Jun. 13, 1926 Eureka McPherson County South Dakota, USA Death: Feb. 26, 2005 Aberdeen Brown County South Dakota, USA Aberdeen - Funeral services for Irene Herman, 78, Aberdeen, are 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial at Eureka City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Irene Herman went to her eternal home, Saturday, Feb. 26 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Spitzer Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., is in charge of arrangements. Irene Herman was born June 13, 1926, to Gottfried and Lydia (Maisch) Schnabel 13 miles east of Eureka, S.D. This is the area where she grew up and attended school along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She married Herbert Herman Sept. 26, 1948, at Eureka. They lived on a farm 17 miles east of Eureka. They moved to Aberdeen in 1988, where she babysat for various families and cleaned for Dr. Kraushar and the Ethanol Plant. Herbert died Oct. 19, 1990, at Sioux Falls, S.D. Irene was an active member of three churches during her lifetime. She was a past member of the UCC and First Baptist Church, Eureka. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Aberdeen where she attended Sunday school and Bible study. She loved cooking, gardening and cleaning. Irene loved entertaining people at her home. She also enjoyed sharing her faith with others. Grateful for having shared her life are three sons: Aaron (Ruth) Herman, Hartford, and their daughters: Traci (Scott) Shepherd and her son Jordan, Lisa Herman and Allison (Aaron) Stryzewski; Donald Herman, Aberdeen; Elmo (Sarah) Herman, Parkston, and their sons; Isaac (Rebecca) and Nathaniel; 10 brothers and sisters: Frieda (Emil) Feiock, Lodi, Calif.; Allen (Lillian) Schnabel, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Emilia Mehlhaff, Hosmer; Johnnie (Delores) Schnabel, Eureka; Martin (Delores) Schnabel, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Marvin (Doris) Schnabel, Lodi, Calif.; Lorraine (Reinie) Guthmiller, Belle Plaine, Minn.; Eleanor (Elmer) Nies, Roseville, Minn.; Darlene (Al-Nathan) Nies, Little Canada, Minn. and Jim (Krista) Schnabel, Eau Claire, Wis.
