Theodore N. Staudt Theodore N. Staudt, age 88, of Canton, died Friday in Aultman Woodlawn. Born in Canton, he was the son of the late Clemens L. and Emma (King) Staudt. He had lived in Canton, Youngstown, and Columbus, returning to Canton in 1982. He was a Cum Laude graduate of St. Joseph?s College in Rensselaer, IN and did post graduate work at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He was a World War II Army Veteran and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He was the former owner and director of Staudt Bacteriological and Clinical Laboratory in Canton. Ted was a volunteer instructor and principal of the CCD High School Religious Education Program at St. Joseph Parish in Canton. He was named Ideal CCD Lay Teacher in the Diocese of Youngstown. He was the former Executive Director of the Youngstown Diocesan Council of Catholic Men where he worked to implement the Vatican II Directives. In 1968 he was named Executive Director of the Ohio Catholic Conference where he was successful in achieving the following legislative goals: provision of auxiliary services and materials for non public students, defeat of abortion proposals in the Ohio General Assembly. Acceptable legal definition of death, establishing a state commission for Spanish speaking affairs, the defeat of a number of proposals which would have impinged of the moral and ethical rights of all citizens, and improvements in some of Ohio?s adoption laws. He retired in 1982. He was a member of St. Michael?s Catholic Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Holland Staudt in 1997; two brothers, Fr. William Staudt and Benedict Staudt; and a sister, Marjory Scheurer. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Michael Schaeffer of Springfield, VA; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Schaeffer of Richmond, VA; a sister, Virginia Whitcomb of Louisville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Clemens and Eileen Staudt of Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1 PM in St. Michael?s Catholic Church with Fr. Bradford Helman as Celebrant. Entombment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Tuesday from 11 AM ? 1 PM at the church. The Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Aultman Hospice, 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708.
