Joan Mandery Passed away August 24, 2007
Joan M. Mandery (Grandma J) 72, Lincoln, NE (formally of Watertown, SD) died suddenly Thursday August 23, 2007 at her home of a heart attack. Joan was born November 24, 1934 in Aberdeen, SD to Harold and Stella (VanOrnem) Williams. She attended schools in Aberdeen and graduated in 1952. After high school, she married Jerry Mandery. She later married Reo Mandery in 1961. Joan spent many years working at Memorial Hospital. She was also active in the community doing things such as PTA President, Director of Girl Scouts, and a social worker at the S.D.S.U. Extension office. She purchased the Palace Of Sweets in 1974. She became the activity director of Prairie Lakes Nursing Home in 1976. In her later years, Joan was involved with the Green Thumb Program as the coordinator. She was also involved in the Red Cross as well as local blood drives. She also volunteered for the 2004 Republican Party. In April of 2006, Joan moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Joan enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, crossword puzzles, embroidering and gardening and most of all Mr. Kitty, her loyal furry companion.
Visitation: Cremation. No visitation.
Service: A celebration of Joan?s life will be held at Crawford Funeral Chapel, Wednesday August 29th at 2 p.m. in Watertown, South Dakota. A service will be held in Lincoln at a later date.
