    OBITUARY: HEFT, George Arthur George Arthur Heft, 77, of Parker Hill Rd., Killingworth, beloved husband of the late Jean Duffy Heft, died Saturday, (July 31, 2004) at Conn. Hospice, Branford after a long, hard, battle with cancer. He was born in Middletown on July 20, 1927, son of the late John and Edith (Sypher) Heft, and was a resident of Killingworth for over 50 years. He married Jean Duffy on Sept 30, 1950. George was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a Charter member of the Killingworth V.F.W. Post 9920, and served as its Commander for 18 years. He was also a member of the Killlingworth Volunteer Fire Dept, troop leader and mentor in the 4-H Organization. He gave his service to the public and business community as a Mason, and his service to every Killingworth resident, and to the memory of all fallen U.S. Servicemen and women, through the organization and stewardship of Killingworth's Annual Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration. This was so stated by the Board of Selectmen of Killingworth, by proclaiming September l, 2003, to be a day of recognition for George Heft; Patriot, Husband, Father and Friend. George is survived by his three children and their spouses: Thomas and Trudi Heft of Wallingford, Donald and Shelly Heft of East Windsor, and Nancy and Dennis Beckwith of Clinton; and his seven grandchildren: Todd and his wife Crystal Heft, Lindsay Heft, Stephanie Heft, Allison Heft, Timothy Beckwith, Tyler Heft and Daniel Beckwith. He also leaves his two brothers: John Heft of Killingworth, Louis Heft of Chester; and three sisters: Evelyn Messier of Killingworth, Doris Kurze of Deep River and Helen Wettish of Meriden. In addition, he leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends as well as two special, loving, and devoted friends, Dot Goss and Phyllis Brault. A gathering will be held on Wed., Aug. 4, from 5-7 p.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, with a memorial service on Thur., Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Killingworth Congregational Church, 273 Rte. 81, Killingworth. Private burial with Military Honors by the Antique Veterans will be held in the Killingworth Congregational Church's Memorial Garden. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Killingworth V.F.W. Post 9920, 4 Pond Meadow Rd., Killingworth, CT 06419.
