    Helen Susanna Rettler (nee Langenecker), 93, lifetime resident of the Hartford and Rubicon area, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

    Helen was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Allenton to Mathias and Otillia (nee Martin) Langenecker. Helen was the beloved spouse of Armand F. Rettler, who preceded her in death in 1982. Helen and her husband, Armand, worked side by side in a lifetime career on their dairy farms. They raised their family in the town of Hartford and later in the town of Rubicon. After her husband?s death, Helen retired in Hartford, where she was active in many community and social groups.

    Helen was a member of St. Kilian Parish in Hartford for over 70 years, as well as a member of the "Daughters of Isabella" and "The Christian Mothers Organization." She was a long-time volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint, baking, collecting and sharing recipes and working on genealogy. Helen dearly loved her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

    She is survived by five children, Myrtle (Richard) Schill of Beloit, Clarence (fiancée, Johnnie Sue) Rettler of Hartford, Marlene (Thomas) Baus of St. Cloud, Laverne (Omar) Shanti of Hartford and John (Mary) Rettler of Rubicon; 21 grandchildren, Joe Schill, Jeff Schill, Julie Schramka, Sheena Lackas, Marshall Rettler, Travis Rettler, Colton Rettler, Rachel Baus, John Baus, Christ Baus, Mark Baus, Monica White, Adam Shanti, Sara Shanti, Noah Shanti, Nora Shanti, Bill Rettler, Mike Rettler, Eric Rettler, Allysa Rettler and Andrea Rettler; 16 greatgrandchildren; her sisters and brother, Beulah Zingsheim of West Bend, Mildred (Albert) Wolf of Allenton and Clem (Rosella) Langenecker of Hartford; and her sister-in-law, Marie Langenecker. Helen is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Armand F. Rettler; her parents, Mathias and Otillia Langenecker; grandson, Patrick Schill; granddaughter Mary K. Rettler; twin sister, Loraine Heinecke; sister, Lucille Gehl; brothers, Norbert Langenecker and Roman Langenecker; brothers-in-law, Leo J. Rettler, Christ Heinecke, Rudy Heinecke, Wendolin Zingsheim and Henry Gehl; sisters-in-law, Asella Rettler and Anita Langenecker.

    Mass of Christian burial for Helen will be Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 264 W. State St., Hartford, with the Rev. David LaPlante officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, from 3 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

    Memorials to the St. Kilian School in Hartford would be appreciated.
